Networks\Palm Run or the .DLL files can be put into a common directory, which is included in the PATH. Then simply place a shortcut the PALMRUN.EXE either on your desktop or in your start folder, for easy access. See http://www.becnetworks.co.uk for more information. Using Palm Run -------------- Use Palm run in conjunction with your Palm Pilot and Palm Desktop. Specify a record in memo pad somewhere convenient, either directly in Palm Desktop, or in the Palm Pilot which is later hotsync'd to your PC. 1. Palm Run needs to check the relevant memo pad to see if an executable file needs to be run and when. Specify in Palm Run how often it should check the Palm Pilot memopad file (this can be 1, 5, 10, 30, 60 or 120 minutes). A marker will appear when the Palm Pilot file is being checked, as a visual indicator. It is also possible to force the file to be checked, by clicking the "Check Now" button. 2. Specify the Palm Desktop memopad file that Palm Run needs to monitor. This will depend on the memo area in Palm Desktop/Palm Pilot where the new record will be created. Use the "Browse" button to locate the filename, under your user name subdirectory under the Palm Desktop installation directory. This is normally MEMOPAD.DAT. 3. Now specify the text that Palm Run needs to look for within the above memo pad specified file. This will be the text that will appear immediately before the date and time - ensure you include any spaces. Palm Run will look for this text in the memo pad file, and then expect to find a date and time immediately after that in the format: dd/mm/yyyy @ hh:mm e.g. 20/02/2001 @ 11:50 4. Finally, specify the file that Palm Run should execute at the specified time, by using the "Browse" button. This can be any file that can be executed by the operating system (e.g. .EXE, .BAT, etc). It is also possible to force an execution, by clicking on the "Launch Now" button. This is useful to test your executable setting. All of these settings are automatically saved in the registry when the application is closed down. It is also possible to force a save, by clicking on the "Save Registry Now" button. Palm Run will now check the memo pad file for the specified text. If found, and there is a correct date and time, the executable file you have defined will run at that time. Palm Run will show the date/time it will begin the next execution. If the date/time has passed, or no valid entry has been found, it will show "Not found, or in the past". ********************************************************************** (c) Copyright 2001 - B.E.C.
